Today, we’re talking logo design. We have a team of graphic designers who are very passionate about good design and we’re going to let them tell you a little about the logo design process today.
Hello! I’m Heather and I head up most of the logo design around here. I’m excited to give you the skinny on creating a killer logo.
Point number one—keep it simple.
Designing a logo can be challenging because there are many facets of any corporation and we want to highlight all of those as best as we can. That’s where the brainstorming and conceptualizing comes in. Think of the most successful logos… they’re simple, right? Because when it comes right down to it people remember elegant, clean, well-designed marks that don’t overwhelm them.
Point number two—positive gestalt.
We learn about his a lot in design school. Positive gestalt. It sounds kind of intimidating, but the general idea is that each element of the logo is heading in a positive direction. Most preferred is up and to the right, because the mind perceives this as moving onward and upward—which is generally what any company (or human being) wants to do!
Point number three—black & white
A logo should be able to decrease and increase in size without losing any detail. It should also be legible when taken down to black and white. If it doesn’t work in black and white, it makes it very difficult to continue using the logo as part of the brand.
KEEP IT SIMPLE.
