We’ve talked before about why you should be using twitter for your business, today we’re here with some tips on how to do just that! Our new social media intern, Elisabeth, is sharing 10 basic do’s and don’ts when using Twitter for business.
DO
Be consistent. Always be consistent in your content. Don’t post something about cats when you’re really trying to promote your tax business.
Respond quickly. Nobody likes to be ignored. Check your account often and respond to people in a timely manner. Engage with followers whenever possible.
Include a hashtag and/or a link. The best tweet always involve a link and a hashtag. The links help drive followers to your website, while the hashtag gives your followers something to follow along with. Links can take up characters, so use bit.ly or other websites that shorten your link for you.
Make tweet your own. Depending on your business, it’s okay to be fun! Create your own voice and give your business a personality.
Post multiple times a day. Unlike Facebook, twitter is FAST. The average shelf life of a tweet is three hours, so posting multiple times a day is beneficial to creating engagement.
DON’T
Don’t post the same content on both Facebook and Twitter. There’s a good chance that a lot of your fans are following you on both Twitter and Facebook. Don’t be lazy and re-post. Creating original on both social media sites will set you apart from the competition.
Don’t overcrowd your tweet with hashtags. While it might seem tempting to post lots of hashtags, don’t do it! It will only annoy your followers.
Don’t follow people just because they follow you. Follow people related to your business. By doing this, you will be able to engage with other easily and who knows? Maybe they’ll follow you back!
Don’t be sloppy. Use correct grammar and punctuation. This goes for any social media site!
Don’t beg. Asking your followers to “please retweet” isn’t going to get you very far. Create good content that is worth retweeting.
